With the approaching first weekend in Advent, the Christmas season also officially begins in Berlin. In addition to Christmas markets and other atmospheric events, we also have tips for those who don’t like Christmas. An overview.

Most Berlin Christmas markets opened on Monday with almost normal operations. A selection:

Christmas market at the Memorial Church:

  • The more than 60 stands from different countries offer decorations, art and toys. There is also a lot of culinary delights.
  • The Christmas market is open from November 21, 2022 to January 01, 2023. Opening hours: Sunday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Christmas Eve from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., 25 and 26 December from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., 31 December from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., 01 January from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Entry is free.

Christmas market at Gendarmenmarkt:

  • The popular Christmas market with the beautiful backdrop has to take place at a different location this year due to construction work. From 2022 to 2024, visitors will have to switch to Bebelplatz.
  • The market is open from November 21 to December 31, 2022. Visitors can visit during these opening hours: Sunday to Thursday from 12 to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 12 to 11 p.m., Christmas Eve from 12 to 6 p.m., December 25 and 26 from 12 to 10 p.m., New Year’s Eve from 12 to 1 a.m. Admission costs one euro and is free for children up to 12 years of age.

Christmas market at Charlottenburg Palace:

  • The Christmas market with the romantic backdrop will probably take place for the last year this year. In addition to the numerous booths, a glittering light installation can also be admired at the castle.
  • Visitors can visit the market from November 21 to December 26, 2022. It is open Monday to Thursday from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday to Sunday from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m., December 25 and 26 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., closed on December 24.

Medieval Christmas market at the Gutshof zu Britz:

  • Every Advent weekend at Britz Castle you can marvel at sled dogs, a Viking ship or the dwarf railway. There is something for families with children from small to large.
  • The market is open at the following times: Friday 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. A ticket costs 3 euros, reduced 2 euros, children up to 6 years can get in for free.

French Film Week Berlin:

  • If you’re not in the Christmas spirit this weekend, you can go to French Film Week. The Institut français d’Allemagne invites cinema lovers to Berlin’s cinemas. Around 20 films of all genres will be shown.
  • The film week takes place from November 24th to 30th. You can find an overview of the program on the site.

Winter city tour with the glittering ship

  • The ship departs from the Nikolaiviertel jetty and travels past numerous sights such as the Museum Island to Charlottenburg and back again.
  • The journey takes two hours, adults pay 28 euros, children under 14 years old 14 euros, children under 6 years old travel free (max. 3 children per adult).
