what day other big cities do it

The city of Alicante has become this Friday in the first provincial capital of Spain to turn on the lighting of the streets with Christmas motifs, with the use of 2.6 million LED bulbs that will allow a 30% energy saving. Torrejón de Ardoz went ahead and turned them on an hour before, thus becoming the first city in the country to turn on the lights.

The mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcala, of the PP, presided over the lighting ceremony at 7:00 p.m. in the town hall square in a 18 meter tall conical tree with 54,756 bulbs, although the main novelty of this edition on the streets of the city is a large, 12-meter-high, giant ball at the beginning of the Explanada promenade that includes a light and sound show every day at 19, 20 and 21 hours.

The power button The bellea del Foc, Belén Mora, and the Infantil, Inés Llavador, have activated it, together with the mayor and the vice-mayor, Mari Carmen Sánchez, the councilor for Infrastructures, José Ramón González, and the one for Fiestas, Manuel Jiménez, in addition to members of the local municipal corporation and guests.

“Alicante is the capital of Christmas, and this Friday our city is the first to turn on the lighting with more than 2.6 million LEDs to support trade“, highlighted Barcala, who recalled that the city also has a Guinness record giant nativity scene.
