Prison riots again in Ecuador: 43 prisoners died, 100 escaped

In the South American country of Ecuador, 43 prisoners died in the riots and conflicts in the prison. It was also reported that more than 100 prisoners escaped during the riots and clashes.

It was determined that many prisoners escaped from the prison during the riots and clashes that started yesterday morning in Bellavista prison in the city of Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas.
In a statement on its Twitter account, the Prosecutor’s Office said, “There are 43 prisoners who died so far, investigations continue. Towards the last hours of the uprising, more than 100 prisoners were found to be missing.
Minister of the Interior Patricio Castillo stated that the escape of 112 prisoners was prevented thanks to the measures of the security forces, and that work was started to catch the escaped people.
Emphasizing that the rebellion in the prison was completely under control, Castillo noted that as a result of extensive searches, firearms and cutting tools were seized in the wards.
Riots and clashes broke out in Bellavista prison in the city of Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas yesterday morning, and 43 prisoners lost their lives.

More than 400 prisoners have lost their lives in violence between rival gangs in the country since last year.
